Mirror Nature - Aishling Müller
01/09/07
The beginning of September sees Co. Westmeath Photographer and Film maker Aishling Müller open her solo exhibition Mirror Nature at Lucy Tormey's Visual Arts Studio & Gallery on the first floor of 17 Mount Street in Mullingar. This project has been funded by Westmeath County Councils Arts Office and takes the form of a photographic Project. The images utilise the beautiful surroundings of the Lake County by using a variety of water reflections from Lough Ennell, Lough Lene and the Royal Canal. At the heart of the images is the desire to create what appears to be a manipulated image, but is in fact a simple photographic capture. The images are abstract in nature and aim to juxtapose the ever-increasing use of digitally manipulating an image to make it appear more realistic, hence blurring the boundaries between what is real and unreal.
In June the project was a part of the 3rd FAF Artist showcase titled Blurring Boundaries in the Lab on Foley Street in Dublin. Here a selection of images from the project where shown and discussed with other established and emerging artists.
The exhibition will open in this new venue in Mullingar on Saturday the 8th of September with special guest speaker, broadcaster and author, Manchán Magan. The opening will run from 3.00pm until 4.30pm. All are welcome to attend. Mirror Nature will be open to the public in the gallery space every Thursday and Friday thereafter from 10.00am - 5.30pm. The exhibition will close on the 28th September. Private viewings of the work may be arranged on alternative days by appointment only. To arrange an alternative viewing, please contact Lucy Tormey on 087 9063591.
