Aishling Muller is an Irish visual artist working across photography, moving image, installation, performance and participatory practice.
Her work moves between documentary observation and symbolic inquiry, exploring how landscape shapes perception, memory, belonging and transformation.
Rather than treating landscape as backdrop, Muller approaches it as an active field of encounter: a place in which ecological processes, human experience and inner states continually intersect.
Photography functions as both witness and language within the practice. Through sustained engagement with environments affected by wildfire, glacial change, forestry, weather and other forms of ecological transition, image-making becomes a way of attending to what is present, what is changing, and what remains.
Alongside this field-based work, Muller develops a parallel strand of symbolic and performative practice concerned with embodiment, identity, memory and the unconscious.
Artistic Practice

Self-portraiture, moving image, installation, text, natural materials and participatory structures are used to explore the relationship between inner experience and the external world, with image-making operating as a threshold between observation, ritual and encounter.
Installation and participatory works extend this practice into embodied spaces for reflection and connection between self, others and environment. These two strands are not separate practices. They emerge from the same underlying enquiry into place, material, memory and change.
Living with an acquired neurological difference has informed an ongoing interest in perception, adaptation, embodied experience and the ways meaning is constructed through encounter with the external world. Within the work, this forms part of a broader investigation into how experience is sensed, interpreted and given meaning.
Across the practice, creativity functions as a mode of investigation. It becomes a way of observing, sensing and questioning. Muller’s work holds documentary evidence and subjective experience in productive tension, allowing neither to collapse into the other.
