EOS | Ecological Observation Studio

EOS is a developing mobile field-research initiative supporting long-term artistic and ecological observation within landscapes undergoing environmental change.

Emerging from more than a decade of work across wildfire-affected terrain, glacial and volcanic environments, managed forests and remote rural landscapes, EOS brings together photography, moving image, sound, field notes and place-based research.

EOS brings artistic observation, ecological enquiry and pattern recognition into direct relation. Through sustained encounter with changing environments, the studio looks for relationships across land, water, biodiversity, material conditions and human intervention, allowing questions to emerge through observation rather than imposing predetermined conclusions.

Artistic intuition generates questions. Ecological observation tests or redirects them. Scientific collaboration can deepen them further.

Conceived as a dedicated mobile field base, EOS will support return to sites across seasons and over time, enabling long-term comparison, observation and responsive research.

Named after Eos, the Greek goddess of dawn, the initiative reflects themes of thresholds, illumination, recovery and landscapes in transition.

EOS welcomes dialogue with artists, researchers, ecologists, environmental organisations, designers and other collaborators working across ecological research, sustainable systems, remote mobility and long-term observation.

Initial field locations include Ireland, Greece, Iceland and Scandinavia, with research focused on forestry, wildfire recovery, glacial and volcanic environments, water systems, biodiversity and ecological transformation.

Future phases will explore how mobile field research can support adaptive, low-impact ways of working across changing landscapes.
