Practice Biography
Aishling Muller’s practice has developed over two decades through photography, moving image, installation, performance, participation and long-term engagement with landscape and environmental change across Ireland, Iceland, Greece, Sweden and wider international contexts.
Her current practice brings ecological observation, embodied research and symbolic enquiry into increasingly close relation.
Training and Practice Development
Originally trained in Audio Visual Media before completing an MA in Art in the Digital World at NCAD, Dublin, Muller’s early work developed through photography, documentary storytelling, moving image and environmental inquiry. A formative period with Magnum Photos in New York deepened her interest in documentary ethics, authorship and the construction of meaning through images.
Extended periods of travel, environmental immersion and cultural exchange shaped the development of a place-based practice. Time spent living and working in Iceland was especially formative, expanding the work into multi-sensory and site-responsive installation.
Further study with the Marina Abramović Institute and the Centre for Applied Jungian Studies informed investigations into performance, presence, mythology, archetype, symbolic process, neurodiversity and embodied experience.
Community Engagement and Education
Community engagement and education remain an important strand of the practice through workshops, mentorship, public talks, curatorial and cultural programming, and collaborations with schools, universities, NGOs, artists and arts organisations.
Exhibitions and Recognition
Muller’s work has been presented internationally through exhibitions, photography festivals, screenings, publications and public programmes. Her photographic work has received international recognition, including an Honourable Mention in Fine Art Landscape at the Tokyo International Foto Awards, finalist selection at the Bangladesh International Photo Awards, and finalist selection at Corinth Photo Festival.
Public talks and lectures have included TEDx Reykjavík, the University of Iceland, the Reykjavík School of Photography, the Irish Fashion Summit and Maynooth University.
Awards, Support and Affiliations
Recent awards and support include the Westmeath Artist Award, an Individual Artist Bursary and Mentorship Funding from Leitrim Arts Office, Arts & Disability Connect mentorship funding, and an Arts Council of Ireland Agility Award. The Westmeath Artist Award has also supported a residency at Cow House Studios and mentorship with curator Miguel Amado.
In 2026, Muller was selected for Leitrim County Council’s SPARK programme for a forthcoming artist residency with Pathfinder Customs Conversions.
Trinity was screened as part of Culture Night Late at SIRIUS Arts Centre, Cobh, in 2026, at the invitation of curator Miguel Amado.
Professional affiliations include FÍSL – Icelandic Contemporary Photography Association, Visual Artists Ireland, Live Art Ireland, Tomorrow’s Air, the Arts for Social Change collective and the Patagonia Pro Community.
